A number of our employees need to work; they show up and do their job. Should we expect more?
No, not since you created this work environment. Some tasks and functions do not require high skill and are routine but are nonetheless important. You need someone to do those tasks and perhaps this type of employee is ideal, they are comfortable and have little or no ambition.
Not everyone can be a super star. Respect those necessary tasks and functions as well as those that do them.
